Qualifications: Bachelor of Music - The University of Texas at Arlington

Mr. Devlin DeCutler

Devlin DeCutler has been the choir director and music teacher at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet Center since 2006.  Under his direction, the Townview Choir has received consistent sweepstakes and first division awards at UIL and other competitions and in 2022, his music department received a Grammy Signature Award. The Townview ensembles have performed at venues throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex and beyond, including the AT&T Performing Arts Center, the Moody Performance Hall, the Texas Music Educators Association’s Convention, and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York.  Devlin and his students are part of the Music Will program, a national educational organization that brings instruments and modern band curriculum to schools throughout DISD and the country.  Through this organization, several of his students have won national recognition for their original compositions.  Devlin collaborates with the Metropolitan Opera in New York to direct the Met: Live in HD program in Dallas.  As the director, he leads teacher training, provides and distributes educational resources, and coordinates live broadcasts for hundreds of students from dozens of schools across the district.  Using the Dallas program as a model, Devlin has helped other teachers and administrators further develop opera programs in Texas and around the country.  To foster partnership between the Met and Dallas Opera educational programs, Devlin serves on the Dallas Opera Educational Advisory Committee and coordinates educational partnerships between the school district and the opera company.  The Music Theory program at Townview draws in top-tier musicians and holds an 11 year streak of 100% pass rate on the College Board AP test.  Devlin has a passion for helping new teachers.  In addition to serving as a mentor to many local teachers and the mentor coordinator for the Texas Music Educators Association in the Dallas area, Devlin has spoken at numerous national conferences to help new and experienced teachers with guidance and direction.  Many of Devlin’s students have achieved great success beyond high school, including Grammy nominations, international performances, and significant artistic collaborations. Devlin thanks God for his infinite grace and guidance and his wife Laura, also a music director, for her constant support.
